Side mirror busted for no reason and some acid came out?

'98 C280 Merecedes - the right side view mirror suddenly became super loose, but didn't fall off. I only noticed because at the same time some liquid (acidy) seaped down the side of the car, it ate away some of the car paint. What happened? Is it fixable? or do I need to replace the whole side mirror?

I'm guessing you have heated door mirrors. Heated mirrors have a fluid in them that will eat away paint if it gets in contact with it. I would try to find a LKQ or A/M Mirror if possible. The OEM mirror is listed for $372.00 and calls for about 1/2hr of labor. A body shop will have to make the call for the repair time on the door. This will all depend on how bad the fluid is etched into the paint.

I would invite you to check out http://www.AutoBodyAlliance.com to help find a body shop in your area.
