How can i test my Thermostat before reinstalling it into my vehicle?

I have my Thermostat out. I think i should Test it before i put it back in my car, although it is New. I wonder if i put it in a pot of cold water, and let ti boill will i harm the Thermostat, or actually Clean it? (It was in myc ar for like 3 days now Head is being changed.)

.. Will Boiling it in the water hurt it? i will see it open above 212 degrees, right? Or above 180 Degrees?

Is it advisable to do this?
